Meet Gregg Hannah

Gregg Hannah was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He joined the Canadian Forces in 1971 and attended Royal Roads Military College and the Royal Military College of Canada. He graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), majoring in English and Philosophy. In 1995, he earned a Master of Arts in Defence Studies, specializing in the Ethics of War, from King's College, University of London, England.

Being from the prairies, Gregg felt that a life at sea was the only proper thing, so he joined the Naval Element of the Canadian Forces. After earning his Bridge Watchkeeping Certificate, he served aboard HMCS Algonquin, Margaree, Terra Nova, and Fort Steele. Throughout his naval career, he qualified as a Shipboard Air Controller, Destroyer Weapons Officer, Combat Control Officer, and Advanced Communications Electronic Warfare Officer, and earned an Advanced Surface Warfare Qualification from the Royal Navy. He served as Executive Officer of HMCS Margaree, Algonquin, and Terra Nova, and later as Commanding Officer of HMCS Porte St. Jean.

During the Gulf War (1990–1991), Gregg served ashore as Executive Officer of the Canadian Maritime Logistics Detachment in Manama, Bahrain, before joining the staff of the Commander, Canadian Naval Task Group Middle East as Task Group Operations Officer for the remainder of the conflict.

Gregg also held several shore appointments throughout his military career. These included serving at Maritime Command Headquarters in Halifax as Executive Assistant to the Chief of Staff Operations and Staff Officer for Officer Professional Development; at the Maritime Warfare Centre as Coordinator of National Maritime Operational Exercises and Senior Instructor in Anti-Submarine Warfare; as Deputy Commandant of the Naval Operations School in Halifax; and at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa as both a Naval Requirements Officer and Naval Force Development Officer. He also completed two exchange postings with the Royal Navy—one as an instructor in surface warfare tactics at HMS Dryad, School of Maritime Operations near Portsmouth, and the other as a student on the Royal Naval Staff Course at Greenwich.

In 1999, Gregg joined the faculty of the Royal Military College of Canada, where he taught ethics, military history, defence policy, the history of science and technology, and strategy. In 2004, he was appointed to the faculty of the Canadian Forces College in Toronto as the Senior Curriculum Development Officer responsible for developing and teaching curriculum in Leadership and Ethics, and Command and Management. Gregg retired from the Royal Canadian Navy with the rank of Commander in April 2013.

During his final 14 years of military service, spent teaching at the university level, Gregg developed a passion for helping others learn how to learn. Following his retirement, he became certified in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Neuro-Linguistic Programming Coaching, Time Line Therapy™, Hypnotherapy, and Language and Behaviour Profile Analysis. He founded Transformational Learning Solutions to continue pursuing that passion.

Today, Gregg works as a Board Certified Master Coach, trainer, educator, and speaker, helping individuals, leaders, and organizations develop practical skills that create meaningful and lasting change.
